The Case of the Squealing Power Cord

When I got my new iPhone a month or so ago, Sarah (formerly known here as Hope) inherited my pink iTunes SLVR. She loves it mainly because it's thin and cute and pink. But a couple of days ago she asked me to check something out because her charge cord was emitting a squealing noise when you plugged it into the phone. We thought at first it could be from the outlet so we switched outlets. Nope, not it. Then I went online to do some research and thought perhaps it was the lamp with the florescent bulb, plugged into the same outlet, causing interference. I unplugged it. Nope, not it. We went through several more tests and nothing helped. The squeal was still there. I had no choice but to go to the AT&T store and find out if they could help me. I told the guy the problem and he came back with a different charge cord and said if it still squeals it's the phone going bad. I got all the way home and realized he gave me a charge cord for a Blackberry. No problem, I thought, it still has the mini-USB end so it will work. Nope, it doesn't. It doesn't charge the phone because it doesn't have the right little thingies for the prong doo-dads to go into in the phone! So today it's back to the AT&T store to see what they can do for me, again. Thankfully we've been able to charge the phone via the USB cord that connects it to the computer.

I have never heard a cord squeal like this one did. It was really strange. Have any of you had strange "charging" issues like this?

UPDATE: I went back to AT&T this morning and explained the situation. They were able to find a cord that fit AND charged. It's working great. This time I checked before I left the store. And to quote our President: 'Fool me once, shame on — shame on you? Fool me — you can't get fooled again'. Oh sweet November!
